재즈 피아니스트 조윤성은 1973년 서울에서 태어나 1986년 아르헨티나로 이주해 유년 시절을 보냈다. 아르헨티나 부에노스아이레스 국립음악원(Carlos López Buchardo)에서 클래식을 전공했으며, 전설적인 피아니스트 아르투르 루빈스타인의 제자인 이네스 고메즈 카릴로(Inés Gómez Carrillo)에게 사사했다.
이후 미국으로 건너가 버클리 음악대학과 뉴잉글랜드 콘서바토리에서 장학생으로 수학하며 클래식과 재즈를 아우르는 음악적 기반을 다졌다. 특히 세계에서 단 7명만 선발되는 ‘Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz’(구 Thelonious Monk Institute)에 아시아인 최초로 전액 장학생으로 선발되며 큰 주목을 받았다. 마일스 데이비스 그룹의 전설적인 피아니스트 허비 행콕이 그를 두고 “언젠가 나를 가르치게 될 연주자”라고 언급한 일화로도 잘 알려져 있다.
조윤성은 할리우드 뮤지션스 인스티튜트에서 8년간 교수로 재직했으며, 프랭크 시나트라 밴드의 수석 피아니스트로도 활동했다. 또한 Ron King Big Band, New York Voices, Gary Novak, Eric Benet, Renee Olstead 등 세계적인 뮤지션들과 협연하며 다양한 공연과 페스티벌 무대에 올랐다.
최근에는 2023년 부천문화재단 ‘0세 유아 콘텐츠’ 음악감독, 2024년 일본 나고야 무스비자 어린이 인형극 음악감독을 맡았으며, 코오롱 KOSMOS ULLEUNGDO 432Hz 힐링 뮤직 프로젝트에도 작곡가로 참여했다.
그는 <Jazz Korea>, <Latin Korea>, <Bach Renovation>, <Brooklyn Rainfall> 등 총 10장의 정규 앨범을 발표했으며, 루시드폴, 폴킴, 윤종신, 이상순, 이은미 등 다양한 아티스트의 편곡자로도 활동해왔다. 현재는 블루룸 뮤직(Blue Room Music) 소속 아티스트로 활동하며 연주와 작곡, 편곡 등 폭넓은 음악 활동을 이어가고 있다.

Jazz pianist Cho Yoon-sung was born in Seoul in 1973 and moved to Argentina in 1986, where he spent his childhood. He studied classical piano at Carlos López Buchardo, a national music conservatory in Buenos Aires, and was mentored by Inés Gómez Carrillo, a pupil of the legendary pianist Arthur Rubinstein.
Later, he moved to the U.S. and received scholarships from the Berkeley School of Music and the New England Conservatory, establishing a musical foundation that bridged the traditions of classical music and jazz. He gained particular recognition when he was selected as the first recipient in Asia of a full scholarship to the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, a prestigious program that admits only seven musicians worldwide each year. Herbie Hancock, the legendary pianist from the Miles Davis Group, has also referred to Cho as a "musician who will teach me one day.
He served for eight years at the Hollywood Musicians Association and was the principal pianist for the Frank Sinatra band. He has appeared in numerous concerts and music festivals, collaborating with internationally renowned artists such as The Lone King Big Band, The New York Voices, Gary Novak, Eric Benet, and Renee Olstead.
Recently, he worked as a music director for the Bucheon Cultural Foundation's project in 2023 and the Nagoya Musubiza Children's Puppet Show in 2024, Japan. He also participated as a composer in the Kolon Cosmos Ulleungdo 432Hz Healing Music Project.
Cho has released ten albums to date, including Jazz Korea, Latin Korea, Bach Renovation, and Brooklyn Rainbow. He has also worked as an arranger for various artists, including Lucid Fall, Paul Kim, Yoon Jong-shin, Lee Sang-soon, and Lee Eun-mi. Currently, he is an artist with Blue Room Music and remains active as a performer, composer, and arranger.
