He began studying the countertenor voice independently at age 18 and quickly rose to prominence, winning First Prize at the Rosa Ponselle International Competition York), York), youngest prizewinner at the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions, Auditions, Second Prize at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions York), York), First Prize at the Musica Sacra International (Rome, (Rome, first winner, winner, jury), jury), and First Prize at the Francisco Viñas International Vocal Competition (Spain), among six additional international awards.
