성민제는 16세의 나이에 세계적 권위의 요한 마티아스 스페르거 더블베이스 국제 콩쿠르와 상트 페테르부르크 쿠세비츠키 더블베이스 국제 콩쿠르에서 최연소 아시아인으로 우승을 차지하였으며 현재까지도 독보적인 실력을 지닌 더블베이스 연주자이다.
10세에 아버지를 따라 처음 더블베이스를 배우게 된 성민제는 12세에 더블베이스 연주자 최초로 서울시립교향악단과 협연하며 두각을 나타내었고, 이외에도 부산시향, 대구시향, 수원시향, KBS 오케스트라 등과 협연한 바 있다. 이후 금호문화재단 영재콘서트, 라이징스타 독주회를 하며 그의 뛰어난 재능을 펼치기 시작했고 2006년 요한 마티아스 스페르거 더블베이스 국제 콩쿠르 최연소 우승, 2007년 상트 페테르부르크 쿠세비츠키 더블베이스 국제 콩쿠르에서 동양인 최초 우승 및 대원음악상과 2008년 금호음악상을 수상한 바 있다.
2011년 국제적인 명성을 지닌 더블베이스 앙상블 ‘바시오나 아모로사’의 멤버로 미국 카네기홀에서, 2012년 뮌헨 클로스터 폴링 비블리오테크잘 메인홀에서 앙상블 ‘MUNIQUE’ 로 데뷔한 그는 베를린 필하모닉 아캄머홀과 체임버홀, 예술의 전당 IBK 챔버홀 등 세계 각지의 저명한 극장에서 리사이틀을 성료하였다. 평창동계올림픽 성공기원 음악회와 자라섬 페스티벌, 서울재즈 페스티벌, ACC 월드뮤직 페스티벌, 인천공항 한류 문화축제, 디토 페스티벌 등 다양한 음악 페스티벌에 출연하였으며 동양인 더블베이스 연주자 최초로 프랑스 루브르 박물관에서 초청을 받아 솔로 리사이틀을 펼치며 실력을 입증하였다.
2009년 도이치 그라모폰(DG)에서 전세계 최초로 더블베이스 솔로앨범 <더블베이스의 비행>을 발매하였으며 이후 <Unlimited>, <Unplugged> 등 4개의 앨범을 추가로 발매하며 더블베이스 연주자로서 한국인 최초로 총 5장의 앨범을 발매했다.
한국예술종합학교 영재로 입학한 그는 한국예술종합학교를 졸업한 뒤 뮌헨 국립음대에서 석사과정과 최고연주자 과정을 졸업하였다.

Minje Sung is a renowned double bassist who, at 16, became the youngest Asian winner of the Johann Matthias Sperger International Double Bass Competition and the Koussevitzky International Double Bass Competition. Known for his exceptional technique and musicality, he remains a leading figure in the double bass world.
Sung began learning the double bass at 10 under his father’s guidance and, by 12, became the first double bassist to solo with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed with the Busan, Daegu, and Suwon Philharmonics, as well as the KBS Orchestra. Major awards include victories at the Sperger and Koussevitzky Competitions, the Daewon Music Award, and the Kumho Music Award.
He has performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic Chamber Hall, and the Seoul Arts Center, and has appeared at major festivals, including the PyeongChang Winter Olympics Concert and the Jarasum Festival. In 2016, he became the first Asian double bassist to perform a solo recital at the Louvre Museum.
In 2009, Sung released Flight of the Double Bass with Deutsche Grammophon, followed by four more albums, becoming the first Korean double bassist to release five albums. A graduate of the Korea National University of Arts, he completed advanced studies at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts.
